Student Safety Alert

Aloha Makalapa Parents.
Student Health, Safety, Welfare, and Well Being are of paramount importance to us at Makalapa.
This message is to alert you to an incident that occurred off campus on the afternoon of Thursday, May 3 at about 2:10 pm.
One of our students who was walking home alone was assaulted by a homeless looking man who also tried -unsuccessfully- to steal his cell phone. The student returned immediately to campus to report the incident and receive treatment.
The school called 911 and parents to report the incident, and paramedics as well as HPD officers arrived shortly thereafter to take reports from the student and the school. HPD have the description of the assailant, and are now on the alert. Fortunately, our student was not badly hurt, but was shaken up.
In an effort to assist us to get all our students home safely, please encourage your child to walk home with others in groups, and to avoid walking alone whenever possible.
This is the first such incident that has been reported this year, and we hope it will be the last.
Thank you for your continued support of Makalapa as we seek to educate and protect the whole child. Each student is priceless to us, and our concern extends to ensure every student arrives home safely.
