Makalapa Elementary receives additional funding through Title I Federal funds. This funding is calculated through the school meals program qualifications and this is why we are so eager to have all families turn in an application as soon as possible. We use these extra monies to supplement our various programs on campus, as well as to offer Family activities, RTI services and classroom assistance via tutors and additional support staff. Our goal is to have all students make academic gains.

   Another avenue that we utilize is AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). Our goal at Makalapa is to prepare the students for middle and high school. AVID develops student's study skills and strategies that prepare them for life-long learning. We infuse WICOR into the daily lessons and try to impart a "growth mindset" to our students.
