Principal's Message

Aloha and welcome to Makalapa Elementary, Home of the Junior Rams.  With over 600 students in grades K-6, our school strives to provide a solid foundation of learning for all children.  It is the mission of our dedicated Faculty and Staff to inspire and prepare your child to be college, career, and citizenship ready for his/her continued schooling towards success in our ever changing global society.

Students at Makalapa have the opportunity to gain and/or refine their technology skills in the classroom through teacher directed projects and required school initiatives.  Computer use supplements student learning by reinforcing instruction and conceptual knowledge.

Our opening of the school year provided an opportunity for parents to use their tech knowledge by accessing our school website to complete two online activities.  We are pleased to find that over half of our parents were successful in this endeavor. Over 75% of the responses supported our efforts to provide an electronic opportunity to confirm enrollment and/or meet the classroom teachers.  We are reviewing your suggestions to create a smoother and more efficient check in system next year.  Thank you for your feedback!

The annual Smarter Balanced Test results are published for Makalapa.  These assessment results are based on grades 3-4-5-6 Language Arts and Math and grade 4 Science scores earned by students enrolled at Makalapa Elem for the entire 2016-2017 school year.  Join us the at the next School Community Council meeting in October to learn more about this data!

Questions about our school programs, initiatives, policies or operations?  Call our Parent Community Network Center Facilitator, Ms. Miki at 421-4110.

Mahalo for your support of Makalapa Elementary School and the Hawaii State Department of Education!

Me ka ha'aha'a,
